Abstract :
This paper builds a probability estimating model of image compression ratio in different scan sequences. The experiments show that the probable compression ratio can be used to estimate the real compression ratio. An algorithm to search an optimal sequence automatically from a given quantization matrix has been found. Using this algorithm we obtain a result that the optimal sequence of Y-matrix is just the scan sequence ZIG-ZAG
