Abstract :
The paper concerns the analysis of an algorithm used for assigning frequencies to non-cellular non-trunked private mobile radio (PMR) systems. The PMR assignment algorithm was first put forward by D.F. Bacon (see Proc. IEE Conf. on Getting the Most Out of the Radio Spectrum, 2002). The authors have applied this algorithm to practical data and analysed the resulting radio spectrum into which the private mobile radio users are assigned. The assignment comparisons have been made for least and most constrained methods of frequency assignment in both virgin spectra and already congested bands. These results demonstrate the practical utility of Bacon´s algorithm in improving the quality of service for all users.
