Abstract
Competitive electricity markets, each with its own unique characteristics and features, have been operating in different regions for more than a decade. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the aspects related to the operation of the Alberta electricity market, its unique characteristics, and its key highlights for the first eight years of operation. A Case study of the formation, evolution, and performance of the Alberta Electric System Operator is also discussed.
