Abstract :
End-to-end quality of service (QoS) guarantees are required for layered video transmission over multihop networks. Due to the inherently stochastic nature of wireless channels, deterministic delay bounds are prohibitively difficult to guarantee. A common alternative is to provide statistical QoS guarantees. In this work, we model the multihop network queueing behavior using the effective capacity/bandwidth concepts to derive QoS exponents for each video layer. Based on this model, we solve the adaptive multihop resource allocation problem with end-to-end statistical delay bounds as a convex optimization problem. We analyze the impact of the number of hops and the locations of the relay nodes on the efficiency of the resource allocation process for given target quality of service requirements.
