Abstract
This paper presents a new measuring method which allows the loss factor of 1 /spl mu/F capacitors to be derived from the calculable time constant of a 200 /spl Omega/ AC resistor of bifilar structure. The method combines elements of the traditional bridge technique (Thomson balancing and Wagner earthing) with the digital synthesis of signals and their sampling using the discrete Fourier transform. The method allows the loss factor to be determined with an estimated standard uncertainty of measurement (k=1) of 2/spl times/10/sup -6/.
