  • Abstract
The history of Engineering has many examples of machines that solve human problems in a distinctly non-human way, and much has been learned from these examples. However, Human-Robot Interaction is a field where it seems that imitating and understanding biological systems may be of particular interest. Therefore, in this special issue, we wish to address the following two key questions: - Which features of biological motor control and biological haptic systems may lead to the successful design of robots capable of interacting physically with their human users? - Which features of haptic robot design can contribute to a basic understanding of the neuroscience of biological systems?
