Abstract :
The contemporary air transport decision making environment is characterized by the effort to improve the level of provided services while at the same time improving the cost-effectiveness, safety and security of operations. Airports have evolved to systems of high complexity involving a significant number of different stakeholders that have to interact with high precision. The key issue for the quality of this collaboration and the synchronization of all the different operations is the sharing of information among the participants. Flight management information systems have been developed in order to facilitate those issues, and are used in most airports around the world. However, as operational needs become more complex, the systems need to be redesigned and updated to address the new requirements.
