Abstract :
A performance evaluation of a DECT (Digital European Cordless Telecommunications) system in a realistic indoor scenario has been performed using a simulator with a sophisticated 3D-ray tracing (RT) algorithm as a propagation model. Performances have been compared with similar estimates obtained with simpler empirical-statistical propagation models. Several different base station (BS) placement solutions have been considered and analysed. Results show that DECT performances can be strongly influenced by site-specific propagation characteristics which cannot be predicted by empirical/statistical propagation models. Some guidelines for indoor system design are eventually drawn.
