Abstract :
A monolithic endless phase shifter is proposed and demonstrated. It is made up of a 0-to-¿ continuously variable phase shifter and a 0/¿ two-state phase switch. The 0-to-¿ phase shifter uses quasi-transmission-line variable reactors for reflection reactance circuits. The variable phase range is 208 degrees. The 0/¿ switch employs a series division of a slot line and a transition from a slot line to a 3-D Thin-Film-MicroStrip-line (TFMS) formed on GaAs substrate. The phase deviation of the 0/¿ switch is ¿12 to 3 degrees with the frequency range of 5 to 15 GHz. By combining these techniques, we can build an endless phase shifter for the X-band.
