Abstract :
Prompted by the desire to exploit the desirable features of both model-based self-tuning control and rule-based fuzzy control, this paper proposes a combined control strategy which offers robustness at the expense of a modest increase in computational complexity. By combining the adaptivity of a self-tuning controller with the simplicity of a fuzzy logic controller the resulting combined scheme is shown to offer a practically viable approach which provides a superior performance in terms of robustness over either the self-tuner or fuzzy scheme in isolation.
