Abstract
Cognitive radio communication has gained widespread interests recently. In cognitive radio systems, secondary users transmit using frequency spectrum not used by primary users. Therefore, reliable and fast spectrum sensing is important. Quit periods are used in which transmitting secondary users suspend their transmission to sense signals of primary users. Our contribution in this paper is that how false alarm probability and channel switching time have an effect on the throughput of secondary users. According to this relationship, we derive an optimal superframe length considering the effect of false alarm event and required channel switching time.
