  • Abstract
A series of field and aircraft experiments have been done in quantifying the capabilities of passive microwave sensors for the remote sensing of soil moisture. In this paper we present the brief characters of the multi-frequency microwave radiometer, and discuss the results of above experiments. The 2.1-cm wavelength radiometer has been shown to be the best single sensor for soil moisture measurement. While the results from those experiments verify the basic relationship between sensor´s measurement and soil moisture, they also demonstrate the limited utility of a single-sensor approach to soil moisture prediction for a wide variety of surface conditions
