Abstract :
Self-tuning control has developed rapidly due to its effectiveness and feasible implementation. This paper is based on a relatively simple generalised Hinfinity self tuning control philosophy due to Grimble (1987). The theoretical framework of the GHinfinity cost function is investigated. The procedures for weight selection to include robustness are given justification. The special needs of the identification algorithm are also examined. The resulting strategy is applied to the robust stabilizing control of an aeroengine across several operating points and the performance improvements over classical designs quantified.
