Abstract :
As various kinds of output devices emerged, such as high-resolution printers or a display of PDA(personal digital assistant), the importance of high-quality resolution conversion has been increasing. This paper proposes a new method for converting image resolution with high quality. The proposed method is based on interpolation, and instead of using the general sampling function, it uses a two-dimensional function that can reconstruct images more sharply. In this paper, overview and issues of the conventional methods are described. The algorithm of resolution conversion using the two-dimensional function is presented in detail. The effectiveness of our method is discussed through the result of a subjective evaluation. This paper also presents an architecture of a resolution conversion hardware for converting video signals in real-time.
