Abstract
An orthogonal algorithm is presented for adaptively modeling dispersive nonlinear channels encountered in data transmission. One application is in the adaptive cancellation of nonlinear intersymbol interference for voiceband data transmission. The model, which is in the form of a nonlinear difference equation, can be rapidly identified and routinely updated as new input-output points become available. In addition, the algorithm includes a fast orthogonal search for significant terms to be incorporated in the model.<>
