Abstract :
This paper describes a patent-pending antenna array receiver architecture designed to reduce numerical and hardware complexity and at an acceptable performance cost by (1) intelligently selecting a subset of antenna for further processing based on a global performance criterion (instead of looking at individual antennas SNRs), (2) exploiting the geometry of arriving signals (i.e. narrow angle spreads) at en elevated base station and (3) performing the subset selection based on long-term statistics of the channels to minimize the associated numerical burden.
