Abstract
The improvement of communication systems is conducted through communication protocol engineering and optimization processes. This paper presents an effort to upgrade the IEEE 802.16 and .16e protocol performance regarding the delay during subscriber¿s network entry or base station handover. Our communication protocol engineering and optimization process resulted in a new uplink channel descriptor (UCD)-aware initial ranging transmission opportunity slots distribution. Using an analytical performance evaluation, we prove the relevance of the new algorithm and the increase of the WiMax network performance.
