Abstract
Today wireless data communication is growing rapidly. In particular, multimedia and Internet communications by wireless systems are the most popular services. Also, the architecture of the wireless networks is varying to support such services better. In this paper, we review, a radio access system, UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network), focusing on the RLC (Radio Link Control) and MAC (Medium Access Control) sub-layers and their error recovery mechanisms when it is connected to Internet. Besides, we consider data flows from RLC and MAC, then simulate the effects of RLC segmentation parameter and erroneous MAC PDUs retransmission Times on the throughput. Finally, we evaluate the effects of the probability of blocking error on the transmission delay and found out to get a maximum system throughput we should select a suitable segmentation value.
