  • Abstract
All-optical network is a very promising candidate for core network architecture of future Internet, by supporting high speed, cost-effective, large capacity, and various traffic services. One of the light-path communication architectures, optical circuit switching (OCS) would dominate the core network of the future Internet due to many merits such as reliability and hardware technologies and so on. There are two distributed basic methods in OCS. One is source-initiated reservation (SIR) and the other is destination-initiated reservation (DIR). However, SIR over-reserves unnecessary wavelengths and the wavelength selected by DIR would be interfered by other reservation requests. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a robust optical light-path establishment scheme for core network architecture of future internet: destination-initiated greedy reservation (DIGR), which collects the global channel information at first and reserves a certain number of wavelengths from the destination to reduce the wavelength blocking probability. We show that DIGR method could improve the wavelength blocking performance compared with the previous schemes via the simulation.
