Abstract :
Topology control and energy saving is one of the most important challenges in wireless ad hoc sensor networks. There are two approaches for conserve energy in topology control algorithms. First by adjusting a node¿s transmission power and second manipulating a node¿s state. In this paper, multi-state k-fault tolerant topology control algorithm is presented using clustering technique to manage k different paths. This algorithm uses both approaches; first by reduction in transmission power of nodes to minimum possible power and second by activate and deactivate different existing paths between sensor nodes and base stations in each cluster, periodically based on QoS provisions and energy cost. Our algorithm then saves battery power of nodes by scheduling sleep intervals for nodes in inactive paths. Through network simulation, we show that our algorithm decreases average consumed energy and improves network lifetime.
