The Personal Access Communications System (PACS) has been selected as one of the most promising low-tier PCS systems by the Directorate General of Telecommunications (DGT) of Taiwan. This paper reports the status of the PACS development in Taiwan. The PACS trial plan and major R&D efforts as well as the environment of wireless services are described
