  • Abstract
Many sensors and actuators are mounted on smart-bikes, which can change gears automatically according to the riding speed, pedaling rate, pedaling torque, etc. In such systems, there is an MCU collecting input signals from sensors, and then using them to decide appropriate gear positions. The MCU then commands the actuators to change to the optimal gears. We introduce a method to get smooth gear-ratio changes by using front and rear derailleur system together. The calculation will generate suggested gear-ratios and operation methods. For the smart-bike, this information is very important to the decision-making database in the MCU. We additionally discuss the development of a fuzzy logic controller used in the MCU, which suggests shift-up, keep current gear, or shift-down motions to riders
