Abstract :
This paper evaluates the error rate performance of turbo codes with a new turbo internal interleaver called the prime interleaver (PIL) for turbo-coded W-CDMA mobile radio channel. Turbo coding with the PIL can generate codewords that have a good Hamming weight for a wide range of interleaving lengths (for example, 300-8000 bits) as required in multimedia communication services. Computer simulation results show that the turbo codes with the PIL, exhibit better performance than that with the conventional interleavers, and exhibit better performance than the concatenated coding of convolutional codes and Reed Solomon codes in frequency selective Rayleigh fading environments
