Abstract :
A fuzzy-logic-based banknote-transfer control mechanism is proposed. In this mechanism, linear stepping motors are used for adjusting the gap between a feed roller and a gate roller. The gap is automatically adjusted to an optimal value through fuzzy reasoning, based on the statistical mean value of the skew of the banknotes that have been fed. Experimental results show that through the performance of control from one to four times, the mean value of the feeding pitch and the mean value for skew are automatically adjusted to differences of less than ±0.28 ms and ±0.25°, respectively, from the target values. When the differences are ±2.8 ms or less and ±0.5° or less, control is required only once. It was confirmed that fuzzy logic can be applied effectively to a banknote separation and feeding mechanism
