Abstract :
The authors report the results of dynamic measurements which evaluate the effectiveness of an application-specific microprocessor for fuzzy control and fuzzy information processing. They propose to specialize a microprocessor architecture for fuzzy-theoretic operations using quantitative techniques developed by designers of the reduced instruction set computing (RISC) architecture. In particular, the introduction of specialized instructions is considered. Experimental results show that it is possible to achieve as high as a 2.5 speedup for a program for fuzzy control by introducing two instructions, min and max
