Abstract :
As spread spectrum CDMA systems use the same carrier frequency between adjacent base stations, co-channel interference becomes very severe. Present practical systems adapt soft handover to overcome this interference near the cell boundary. Picocellular CDMA indoor systems, which use simple base stations, increase the telephone call loss due to using soft handover in these areas. This paper introduces a co-channel interference rule in the previously proposed decision-avoided handover algorithm and compares the performance with that of soft handover using a propagation simulator. The evaluation resulted in better performance than for soft handover
