With domestic residential housing market converting from "resources orientation" to "market orientation", it\´s a cry for the government and the housing suppliers to know well about the characteristic of housing consumption pattern of urban households. In this paper, based on the statistics of economic development level and Engel coefficients, rationality of housing consumption ratio of Shaanxi urban households is analyzed with some countries with similar situation as reference, it is found that reasonable housing consumption ratio of Shaanxi urban households shall be within range of 7~12%, the actual average level is in the reasonable range but on the higher side; based on the statistics of dispensable income and housing consumptions of urban households with different income level, housing consumption elasticity to dispensable income are analyzed for Shaanxi province and China, it is found that elasticity of housing consumption to income of low, middle lower, middle, middle high and high income group are 0.51, 0.60, 0.88, 0.87 and 0.87 respectively with average level of all income groups being 0.77 for Shaanxi citizen; and elasticity of housing consumption to dispensable income of low, middle lower, middle, middle high and high income group are 1.00, 0.96, 0.96, 0.94 and 0.98 respectively with the average level of all income groups being 0.94 for citizen of China. It is recommended that housing polices of Shaanxi province shall be made according to its concrete situations.
