Abstract :
Much local government has recently utilized digital maps for geographic information systems (GISs). The key for a successful GIS in local government is accurate updating of map data. Local government, however, does not have an established technique to update the map data at present. It is very difficult for local government to obtain the latest urban conditions because updating of map data requires a lot of time. The purpose of this study is to examine the system that updates base map data using remote sensing and RTK-GPS in real time. In this paper, we defined the system as "REAL TIME GIS". In addition, we applied "REAL TIME GIS" to local government tentatively and calculated cost reductions. As a result, the system of "REAL TIM GIS" helps to create maps more useful in real time. The simplification of the mapping processes, reduction in mapping costs, and understanding of accurate urban conditions are connected with the improvement in the service of local government to the citizens. The system of "REAL TIME GIS" will affect the management of mapping in the local government powerfully.
