Abstract :
This from 17 July until 26 July, 2003, a field campaign on Mount Etna and on the island of Vulcano, was carried out jointly to airborne campaign (FASA). FASA (Fire Airborne Spectral Analyze) is the airborne main instrument composed by an imager and a Fourier Transform Spectrometer in the 3.3-13 mum IR range. The field campaign was aimed to the validation and calibration of remote-sensed data. A series of target sites, representative of the present-day volcanoes surface and recognizable from a great distance, have been geologically and spectrally characterized. The spatial emissivity of the surface materials has been measured by means of a portable Fourier transform infrared spectroradiometer dedicated to the field measurement of spectral radiance from Earth ´s surface and atmosphere. This spectrometer operates at wavelengths ranging from 2 to 16 mum with a spectral resolution of 2 cm-1. We will show the methods and the emissivity measured for a representative samples of target sites. Airborne and field spectra were compared to laboratory spectra of selected samples
