Abstract
A method for the design of a fuzzy control system for dynamic nonlinear plants is described. The proposed strategy does not require either specific knowledge of the plant or of techniques for control system design. The approach consists of two phases. First a multilayer perceptron neural network is adopted to identify a model of the process. Then the cell-to-cell algorithm is used for automatic synthesis of the fuzzy controller. An application to the control of temperature in a thermal process is reported focusing on some considerations about the suitability of the method
