Abstract
We adapt a general form of multiple access multi-layer collision anticipation/resolution (MULCAR) to describe the existing IEEE 802.11 MAC DCF. We further explore the proper way of tailoring the splitting tree to achieve higher throughput and lower delay, primarily for high rate OFDM transmission wireless LAN at 5 GHz
