Abstract
A so-called Impedance Splitting Method is discussed which allows a separation of the impedance ZM of the culture medium and the impedance ZE of the electrode system. ZE shows high sensitivity and yields good results for the initial microorganism concentration also for media of high salt content (e.g. selective media). In many other cases the combined use of ZM and ZE offers a more specific detection of microorganisms
