Abstract :
A thorough comparison of a 3-element microstrip patch ESPAR and traditionally-fed, uniform illumination phased array antennas operating at 1 GHz is presented. The ESPAR is compared to two arrays employing phase shifters, exhibiting both the close-proximity ESPAR spacing, and a third array with half-wavelength spacing. Performance characteristics including radiation pattern trends, directivity, and efficiency are discussed.
