Abstract
A technique based on linear programming is presented for the design of baseband pulse-shaping FIR digital filters for data transmission applications. The filters are matched, and thus the overall Nyquist filter response is split equally between the transmit and receive filters. The filters can be specified to have arbitrary stopband attenuation characteristics, and they satisfy a zero intersymbol interference constraint when cascaded, i.e., the impulse response of the cascade of the two filters has uniformly spaced zero crossings. Design examples are given of matched filters with an equiripple stopband characteristics, and matched filters with a stopband characteristic satisfying FCC mask specifications
