Abstract :
A radial insulation structure which is used in intense beam diode is introduced and the surface flashover across the oil-solid interface is researched. The electrical field distribution on the surface of the cone-shaped insulator was studied by simulating. Experiment was done on a pulse power source with 50ns pulse width and 100Hz repetitive frequencies. The experiment took a period of 18 month and 100,000 pulses were done. After that the surface of the insulator was found has carbonized dendritic structure. Basing the solid-liquid interface flashover mechanics, the possible flashover causes were discussed.
