Abstract :
An efficient algorithm for the design of a vector quantizer (VQ) is developed for use on a long training sequence of data in the paper. The algorithm is based on multiple codebooks, and a multi-codebook vector quantizer (MCVQ) can be obtained. With microcomputer simulation, it shows that the algorithm for VQ design based on the multi-codebook is able to reduce the computational complexity of the VQ. In addition, the storage requirements of the MCVQ is not increased compared with the conventional fully search vector quantizer (FSVQ) based on single codebook.<>
