Abstract :
The paper presents the first active MMIC microstrip antenna, to the authors knowledge, which has a resonant frequency as low as 5.8 GHz, with possible applications in transport telematics and other systems. The MMIC active antenna consists of a miniaturised microstrip quarter wavelength H-antenna, which occupies approximately one tenth of the substrate area of a half wavelength patch antenna, and two active switch circuits integrated inside the passive antenna for Tx/Rx isolation. The overall size of the MMIC is 4.05 mm × 2.1 mm.
