Abstract :
An improved high power millimeter wave generator was presented in this paper. It mainly consists of two sections of slow-wave structure (SWS) separated by the drift tube and an output cavity, and it can be operated at a relatively low magnetic field. Its working process is investigated by means of theoretical analysis and PIC simulation, and the results agree well with each other. After optimization, the guiding magnetic field can be lowered greatly as its output power and efficiency be increased. A typical simulation result is that, at the beam parameters of 600 keV and 5.1 kA, and magnetic field of 0.8T, an 8mm microwave with output power near 1GW is generated, the power conversion efficiency is over 25%, and the microwave mode is TM01 mode.
