Abstract
The dual-signal receiver is a narrowband multi-user receiver, which allows the reception of two signals simultaneously transmitted over the same channel. To increase the receiver performance in a fading environment, antenna combining is applied and its performance is evaluated. Results obtained for the dual-signal receiver with minimum mean square error combining and null steering combining techniques are compared to both the theoretical optimum represented by joint detection of the two signals and to the results obtained for a conventional receiver with minimum mean square error combining. These comparisons show that the dual-signal receiver is able to achieve the performance of joint detection and outperforms a conventional receiver implemented with multiple antennas
