Abstract
Three different access control algorithms for uplink packet transmission in a WCDMA system are investigated and compared. The first two methods, based on the number of channels and on the received interference, respectively, have appeared before in the literature. The third method is new and operates on cell group level, i.e. it is centralized. The methods are compared regarding achieved system throughput and the ability to control the uplink interference. The centralized method is found to be superior to the other algorithms, and as an added benefit it does not require interference measurements
