Abstract :
We introduce three models of the radio access network-core network (RAN-CN) interface in IMT-2000 networks. After modeling each protocol stack as queueing models, the performance of these models is evaluated in terms of average call setup delay and average transmission delay between the radio network controllers (RNC) and the mobile services switching center (MSC), and average location update delay. The comparison among them gives information about which protocol stack model is more advantageous. The 4.2931+M protocol on the application layer above ATM signaling protocol stacks yields the best performance among the three models
