A wavelength tunable semiconductor laser is a key device for realizing high-performance systems. Broadly tunable lasers have been proposed in DBR and DFB lasers with a super structure grating (SSG) as means of achieving such systems. In this paper, studies on multi-phase-shift SSG reflectors and broadly tunable lasers with the SSG are reported
