Abstract :
Present a new algorithm for license plate location based on image energy to avoid limitations of current license plate location algorithm. The working principle is to construct energy image by taking full advantage of plate shape, texture characteristic and sharp-cut contrast to choose candidate areas, which simplify plate locating to a fast, robust and efficient process. Avoiding the difficulty to choose a threshold is its advantage compared with other algorithms. Finally it explains how to apply this method in the vehicles speed measurement.
