  • Abstract
VSAT technology has been used in various communication systems all over the world because of its low cost and easy installation. This further stimulates the study of satellite multiple-access protocols. The combined random/reservation protocol is a good solution for VSAT networks that have both interactive and batch-type messages, so that it has undergone rapid development in recent years. This paper mainly deals with the response time performance of a combined random/reservation protocol. Two calculation methods for packet delay are presented after a simple description of the principle of the protocol, and finally the message response time (or delay) characteristics are given. The results show that, the protocol keeps good response time performance for both short and long messages. And the results can be verified by comparison with simulation results
