Abstract
Low-cost planar microstrip single elements and arrays suited for multichannel multipoint distribution systems (MMDS) and microwave video distribution systems (MVDS) at 40GHz have been designed. The problem of realising dedicated 90° sector antennas with high roll-off characteristics which are impossible to achieve with other antennas in a cost efficient way has been investigated. Corresponding antennas as well as antennas with pencil beam characteristics have been built. For examination of radiation pattern distortion due to coupling effects simulations have been carried out The size of the antenna was minimised by developing a housing with integrated microstrip to waveguide transition.
