Enhancing the Role of Higher Educational Institutions in Local Economic Development: From the Examples in Zhejiang Province

Nowadays, the economic and social development has more and more relied on the technology accumulation, application and innovation. The higher educational institution comes with the functions of knowledge innovation, knowledge application, knowledge education and personnel training. It is an important part in the regional innovation system and main force of technology innovation. The article took the instance of Zhejiang, discussed the main functions of the higher educational institution in regional economic development, analyzed the main obstacles in the cooperation of businesses, academies and research institutions and brought up approaches for and suggestions on promoting the cooperation of businesses, academies and research institutions based on that. The article provides a basic idea for improving the role of local higher educational institutions in serving regional economic development.
