Abstract :
A locally non-homogeneous substrate configuration is proposed for optimizing both the dimensions and the radiation efficiency of microstrip patch antennas. This is achieved through an optimal combination of a high permittivity substrate, for size criteria, with a foam matrix for radiation pattern improvement Comparisons between simulations, based upon the TLM method, and measurements are provided.
