Abstract :
This paper presents new application of a improved watershed algorithm in extraction of coastlines. The proposed algorithm uses a single queue and conditional neighborhood comparisons for processing 3_3, 5_5 neighboring pixels to reduce computational complexity while compared to the conventional watershed algorithm. The results compares with the conventional algorithm of coastlines extraction, the proposed algorithm has a clear and simple result including muddy coastlines, which needs less post-processing working.
