Abstract :
This paper presents the design of stacked rectangular dielectric resonator antennas (DRA) for FCC ultra-wideband (UWB) applications. The antenna is composed of a dielectric resonator and a thin dielectric segment, and is excited by a coaxial probe. Two techniques are proposed to improve the impedance matching and the bandwidth of previously designed UWB rectangular stacked DRA, making them more reliable for FCC UWB application without any performance compromising. Cutting a groove on the bottom side of the dielectric resonator (DR) can improve the impedance matching within the UWB bandwidth, whereas a square metallic patch connected to a coaxial probe to excite the DRA can broaden the entire UWB band. Theoretical results show that an ultra-wide band, from 3 GHz to 11.6 GHz, can be achieved.
