Abstract
Compression method for coastal radar data is developed for reducing the amount of data to meet the storage and transmission requirement. In coastal radar data, between contiguous values both in a data set and between data set has a small difference or change smoothly. We propose a method for compressing coastal radar data by using delta encoding. Delta encoding represents data as a difference from previous data or the data used as reference. The result shows that the using of delta encoding in compressing coastal radar data has a better compression factor compared with other methods used in general compressors like LZ77 (Lempel Ziv 77) used in Gzip and BWT (Burrow Wheeler Transform) used in Bzip2 and close to Context Mixing (CM) used in ZPAQ, with the best processing time.
